Q&A

Please do contact me if you have any questions that are not answered here- I'm always happy to help!

What do I do when I receive my order?

Please be prepared to welcome your plants as soon as your parcel arrives- unpack them and give them a little love, light, and water so they settle happily into their new home. 🌱 Most plants will be suitable for planting outside but if you don't have a garden I would recommend getting a couple of 15cm/1 Litre pots that you can put on a windowsill. ❤️ You can use any soil or compost.

How to turn my planting into a ritual?

Planting becomes a ritual when it follows nature’s rhythms. In biodynamic practice, the best time to sow or transplant is just before the full moon, when the rising lunar energy draws vitality upward and supports strong, healthy growth. Prepare the soil with intention, pause for a moment of gratitude, and plant while visualising abundance taking root. As the moon grows full, your seeds gather light and strength. Each act of care that follows - watering, weeding, or harvesting - continues the ritual, linking your work to the rhythm of the earth and sky.

How to plant into a pot?

See the video below and remember, I'm here to help whenever you need any assistance!

How much should I water my plants?

Water them when you first plant them and then once a week. Keep the soil just damp - not soggy. Plants in small pots or sunny spots dry out quickly, while shaded or large pots stay moist longer. If in doubt, press a finger into the soil: if it feels dry an inch down, water.

Can my plants be planted directly into my garden?

Yes if they are hardy perennials they will be fine over winter- they may lose their leaves if outside so you could always harvest the leaves in Autumn if you wish to use them for teas etc, and they will come back alive in the Spring. Tender herbs like stevia or basil prefer a bright windowsill indoors during colder months. I will send you a message with specific details for your plants, but they are generally very easy to care for.

What does “hardy perennial” mean?

A perennial is a plant that lives for more than one year. “Hardy” means it can survive winter outdoors. So a hardy perennial will rest during the cold months and re-grow each spring. We only sell perennials so that your plants will last many years.

Why has my plant lost its leaves?

Don’t panic - many herbs die back in winter or after flowering. Check that the soil is moist and not waterlogged, then wait. Often, new shoots will appear once the season turns.

I don’t have a sunny garden - can I still grow herbs?

Yes. Your plants are chosen to be easy to grow and suitable for all growing conditions.

Will the plants suit my garden or home?

We choose hardy, easy-to-grow species that thrive in most gardens, pots, or windowsills. Each plant comes with its own care card so you’ll know exactly what it needs. If you’re ever unsure, feel free to contact us for advice.

How do I know if my plant is getting enough light?

If the leaves turn pale or the stems grow long and leggy, your plant may need more sun. Move it somewhere brighter, ideally with at least 4–6 hours of sunlight a day.

Can I keep my plants in pots permanently?

Yes, as long as you repot them every year or two with fresh compost. Choose a pot slightly larger than the last and make sure it has drainage holes.

Do herbs attract bees and pollinators?

Yes! Many herbs, like thyme, yarrow, and calendula, are loved by bees and butterflies. Leaving a few flowers to bloom helps support your local wildlife.

What is a green witch?

A green witch is a practitioner who draws on the power of nature- especially plants, earth, and the changing seasons, for magic, healing, and connection. Their craft is rooted in herbalism, working closely with the medicinal and magical properties of herbs and flowers, while forming a deep relationship with the natural world and the elements. They harness the energies of the earth, moon, and seasonal cycles to guide spells, rituals, and daily practice, with a strong focus on healing and wellbeing through natural remedies.

How do I use my incense burner?

You can leave the felt pad in (silver side down)- this just provides insulation. Then you can light some herbs on top. If you are having trouble keeping it lit, I tend to arrange them with the stems upwards (like a mini camp fire) to make it easier.

With dried herbs and resin there is more smoke than incense, so they tend to be used for shorter times such as rituals. Always stay present when they are in use.

If you wish to use a charcoal disc, remove the foil pad. The discs create more smoke so are more suited to an outdoor, or very well-ventilated space.

What is the gauze bag for that my crystal is in?

This can be used to make a bath blend out of your dried herbs- add the herbs to the bag and then into a warm bath, making it easy to remove the herbs when you are done.

How do I use my herbal blend?

Each month you will receive a ritual invitation which is created with the energy of the natural elements (earth, air, fire, and water), but you can use it in whichever way best aligns with your intention.

Can I combine plants and crystals in rituals?

Yes, many people like to pair herbs and crystals that complement each other’s energies. For example, rosemary with clear quartz for cleansing, or calendula with citrine for joy and confidence. Always let herbs dry fully before burning or placing near candles.

Do you grow your plants organically?

All our plants are grown without any pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers (even organic ones!). We rely on natural composts, companion planting, and beneficial insects to keep everything healthy. Many of our plants are UK natives which means they are well-adapted to local conditions and therefore more reliable.

Are the herbs safe for tea or edible use?

Our herbs are grown for decorative and ritual purposes. While many are edible varieties, please research each plant before consuming and always wash leaves thoroughly. Some plants are only suitable for external use.

How do I store my harvested herbs?

Once dry, store herbs in an airtight jar away from sunlight. Label with the name and date. They’ll keep for around a year before losing aroma and strength.

How do you deliver plants?

Orders are sent via Royal Mail Tracked 24- so will be with you the day after the Post Date shown on the listing page. People are sometimes surprised that the plants can survive in the post. We make sure that they are trimmed and roots kept moist so that they are still alive when they reach you. Plants are trimmed to reduce respiration during transit and packed with a supply of water.

If in the unlikely event your plant dies during delivery, please send us a photo and we will send a new one out immediately (or offer a refund).

Do you ship outside Great Britain?

At the moment, we only send live plants within Great Britain. Non-living items such as diaries and handmade goods can be shipped internationally.

Do you sell gift sets?

Yes! We offer seasonal ritual boxes and gift bundles that include herbs, crystals, and natural wood crafts. These are available in limited runs- perfect for birthdays, handfastings, or seasonal celebrations.

Can I request a custom mix of herbs?

Absolutely. You can message us with your intention or theme (for example, “protection garden” or “moon ritual herbs”) and we’ll suggest or blend plants accordingly.

Can I visit The Witch’s Garden in person?

We don’t currently have an open nursery or shopfront, but we occasionally run open days or attend local markets. Keep an eye on our newsletter or Instagram for updates.

Returns

We cannot accept returns on live plants unfortunately, due to time spent in transit.
